1. Acceptance of Terms

By using Characters Without Number ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

The App is a web application for creating and running characters for the Stars, Cities and Worlds Without Number tabletop role-playing games. It provides character creation tools, game master tools, local storage, and optional cloud sync.

The character builder, all game rules content, and all game master tools are free to use. The App additionally offers optional paid subscriptions (see section 5) which provide cosmetic extras and higher limits on cloud storage. No game rules or game master features are behind a paywall.

3. User Accounts

Cloud sync features require signing in via email, Google, or GitHub. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You must provide accurate information when creating an account.

4. User Data

You retain ownership of all character data you create. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your content. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.

5. Subscriptions, Billing and Refunds

The App offers optional paid subscription tiers ("Supporter" and "Pro GM"). Current tiers, prices and inclusions are shown on the pricing page, which forms part of these terms.

Payment processing. All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We never receive or store your full card details. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe's terms. Stripe issues your receipts and invoices, and provides the billing portal where you can manage your subscription.

Prices and currency. All prices are in US dollars (USD) and are shown inclusive of any taxes we are required to collect. Your bank may apply its own currency-conversion or foreign-transaction fees, which are outside our control.

Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual, as selected) at the then-current price, and will keep renewing until cancelled. We will give at least 30 days' notice on this page and by email before any price change affecting an existing subscription takes effect.

Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from the billing portal linked on the pricing page, or by emailing us. Cancellation stops future renewals; your paid benefits continue until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate partial periods.

Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry it. Your benefits continue until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which the subscription lapses and your account returns to the free tier.

Refunds. If you are unhappy with a subscription, email us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it in full, no questions asked. Outside that window, refunds are at our discretion. Nothing here limits any statutory cancellation or refund rights you may have under the consumer law of your country of residence, which apply in addition to this policy.

What happens to your data. Ending a subscription never deletes anything. Content created while subscribed — including characters and campaigns above the free-tier limits — remains readable, editable and exportable. You may simply be unable to create additional cloud characters or campaigns until you are back under the free-tier limits or subscribed again.

Changes to paid features. We may add to or change the benefits of a tier. If we materially reduce the benefits of a tier you are currently paying for, you may cancel and request a pro-rata refund of the unused portion of your current billing period.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App's systems or other users' data
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure
• Use automated tools to scrape or overload the service

7. Intellectual Property

Stars Without Number is a trademark of Sine Nomine Publishing. This App is a fan-made tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sine Nomine Publishing. Game rules and content referenced in the App are used under the terms of the Open Game License or are summarized for character creation purposes.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will not be lost. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important character data.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App's operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to loss of data.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Material changes will be noted on this page with an updated date.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the cloud sync service for users who violate these terms. Local functionality (character creation and storage in your browser) is not affected by account termination.

If we terminate a paid account for reasons other than a breach of these terms, we will refund the unused portion of the current billing period.
