What the Worlds Without Number builder does

Warriors, Experts, Mages and every partial

All three full classes and the partial combinations, including the dual partial Mage that casts at full strength and can reach the partial-only traditions.

Traditions, spells and Arts

High Mage, Elementalist, Necromancer, Healer and the Vowed, each with its own spell list or Art set, its own Effort formula and its free basic Arts.

Spell levels that unlock as you level

Creation offers first-circle spells because that is what a first-level mage gets — but your repertoire is not frozen there. The sheet’s spellbook opens circles 2 through 5 at the character levels that unlock them.

Effort computed, not guessed

Effort comes out of your tradition, your relevant skill and your best attribute, minus the partial-caster penalty. The builder shows the sum, so you can see why the number is what it is.

Foci with their choices intact

Foci grant skills and attribute bumps automatically, and the ones offering a choice ask you rather than guessing. Skill grants that overflow convert to substitutions the way the rules say.

Print it or play it

Export a filled character sheet PDF or a styled sheet for play, and keep levelling on the sheet with a level-up wizard that knows WWN’s own attack and save progressions.

How to make a Worlds Without Number character

  1. Roll or assign attributes

Roll 3d6 down the line or take the array, then adjust as the rules allow.

  2. Choose a background

Your background grants a free skill plus growth and learning picks or rolls.

  3. Choose a class

Warrior, Expert or Mage — or a partial pair. Mages and partial Mages also pick a tradition here, and get its bonus skill.

  4. Take your foci

Foci apply their granted skills and bonuses immediately, and ask you about any choice they offer.

  5. Learn spells and Arts

Casters choose a starting repertoire and any Arts their tradition grants, with Effort shown as it is calculated.

  6. Equip and play

Buy gear, export the sheet, and level up from the sheet as the campaign runs.

Deluxe traditions and heroic characters

The deluxe material is a toggle away. That includes the six Arts of the Gyre traditions — five arts-only partials with their own Effort pairings, plus the spell-point Invoker — the Legate overlay with its writs and its own Effort and XP, and heroic classes with their larger hit point pool. Heroic characters are opt-in per character rather than on by default, because a heroic PC is several times the power of a normal one.

Tools that carry over from the other games

Everything shared across the Without Number line works for a Worlds character too.

  • A dice roller wired to your actual skills, saves and attack bonus
  • Campaign mode with a party roster, session prep and encounter building
  • A hex map builder that also does overland regions, not just star sectors
  • Homebrew items and mods that appear in the catalogue beside book content

Worlds Without Number character builder FAQ

Is this Worlds Without Number character builder free?

Yes. Every rule, every builder step and every GM tool is free, with no account required — characters save in your browser by default. Making an account adds cloud sync across your devices, and an optional paid tier only adds cosmetic flair and extra cloud storage. Nothing about the rules is behind a paywall.

Does it support partial classes?

Yes — every Warrior/Expert/Mage partial combination, including the dual partial Mage, which casts at full Mage strength and may take the partial-only Healer and Vowed traditions.

Can I learn new spells after character creation?

Yes. Creation offers first-circle spells, and the character sheet’s spellbook opens higher circles as you reach the levels that unlock them. Locked circles stay visible and labelled with what unlocks them. Arts check their own minimum level and prerequisites.

How is Effort calculated?

One point for a full-mage tradition, plus your relevant skill (Magic, Heal or the order skill), plus the better of the attributes your tradition uses — minus one for a partial caster. The builder shows the result on the magic step and the sheet.

Can I use it with Stars or Cities Without Number?

They share one builder. Pick the system when you start a character, or use the Custom preset to blend modules from all three — the engine and the character sheet handle each system’s own catalogues.

Does my character save?

Characters are stored in your browser first, so a build survives a refresh and works without an account. Sign in and a character can additionally sync to your account so it follows you between phone and desktop.
